I came to Budapest with little expectations. I knew of the beauty of Budapest’s skyline when it lights up at night and about the ample amounts of relaxing thermal baths, but what I was not prepared for was the number of delicious and lovely best cafes in Budapest, Hungary.
As a devoted coffee girl, I did some research prior to coming to Budapest and jotted down a few places to check out. I knew I’d find a good cup of coffee, I just didn’t know I’d stumble upon a new one on every corner. Budapest has delicious coffee available inside of art stores, in the alleys of abandoned buildings, and tucked cozily into gardens, and has set the standard on coffee shop culture in Central Europe.
I visited quite a number of coffee shops while I was there, but I’ve narrowed down my top choices in no particular order. Here are the best coffee shops in Budapest.
Budapest Baristas
At Budapest Baristas they offer a wide variety of specialty coffee beverages served elegantly on colored plates in a relaxing atmosphere.
I ordered a perfect Flat White and my dear friend ordered a Matcha Latte, which was out of this world. If you’re into Matcha, this is absolutely the place to go, and it’s also the only place we stumped upon that served it.
In addition to coffee, you can get sandwiches and an a variety of breakfast items here as well. All delicious, and since we’re in Budapest — budget friendly! This was probably my overall favorite of the best cafes in Budapest, Hungary.
Kontakt
Tucked into a cobble-stoned alleyway, Kontakt boasts a minimalistic design and menu for no-frills coffee fans. From one perspective, Kontakt might come off a bit pretentious as they are quite serious about their coffee.
The first thing you see when you enter is a sign that reads, “No sugar. No Americano. No milk in filter.” In my opinion, I’m all about it. Good coffee shouldn’t need sugar. If you’re a fellow sans sugar coffee drinker, then this coffee shop is a must as the espresso and Flat White were both incredible and strong.
Madal Cafe
With several locations throughout Budapest, Madal Cafe is a sophisticated coffee shop with a slogan “Good coffee, good karma.” Catch some free WiFi and join other laptop users sipping on a freshly ground coffee.
Enjoy an assortment of pastries as well as pasta dishes, salads, and soups while you’re there. It makes for a fantastic lunch spot when around the Hungarian Parliament.
Vinyl & Wood
Serving up classic Italian coffee, Vinyl & Wood is a cozy two-story café combining delicious coffee with shopping in a unique vinyl filled set-up. Here you can get a perfect cup of coffee while also the potential of shopping around for trendy sunglasses, hats, phone cases, backpacks and trinkets.
This one was really cool and you should definitely check it out when exploring the best cafes in Budapest with exceptional specialty coffee.
Cafe Frei
Cafe Frei has an interesting concept going on where they whip up coffee concoctions from all around the world. Their slogan “Tasting the World” lives up its name as you can order over 70 different coffee recipes from countries such as Italy, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.
Printa Design Shop
Another café intertwined in a hip store, Printa Design Shop offers freshly roasted coffee in a cosy and eco-friendly environment.
They’re a no waste company and pride themselves on serving up delicious coffee while offering handmade products, clothing, and an assortment of printing work such as maps, posters, and journals.
