Where to Get the Best Coffee in Glasgow

It seems like every month a new delicious coffee shop pops up in Glasgow. It’s like us locals thrive off of a perfectly crafted, creamy flat white and as such we need one available on every block. Please and thank you.

Seriously though, Glasgow is full of delicious, artisan roasted coffee. It’s hard to walk into a coffee shop and not expect to drink something delicious — but it can still happen.

Avoid disappointing coffee with this guide to the very best coffee in Glasgow divided up by neighborhood delivered to you by a proud coffee snob.

Glasgow City Centre

Laboratorio Espresso

One of the top spots in the city centre, Laboratorio Espresso is an Italian-style espresso bar. It’s small, minimalistic, and cozy. The smell of coffee fills in the air as they serve up a delicious cup of coffee.

There’s limited indoor and outdoor seating, but do try to snag one of the outdoor tables if it’s a nice day.

Riverhill Coffee Bar

Located just outside of Central Station, Riverhill Coffee Bar is tiny cafe serving up delicious coffee roasted by Glasgow’s Dear Green Coffee. It’s bustling with business workers, locals, and tourists alike. Beyond coffee, they prepare a variety of sandwiches, pastries, bagels, quiches, and more. The service is quick and friendly and the food and coffee are exceptional.

Spitfire

Serving up their exclusive Gunnerbean coffee, a blend of Colombian and Brazillian beans, Spitfire is a located on a cozy corner of Candleriggs Street. The coffee is excellent and they also serve an all-day breakfast and a variety of sandwiches and wraps. Their halloumi bagel is especially delicious.

Wilston St. Pantry

Wilson St. Pantry has beautiful black and white tiles with nice wooden tables dispersed evenly among the open floor plan. They serve up coffee from Papercup, a marvelous coffee roaster in Glasgow’s West End.

Other than delicious Papercup coffee, they prepare a great bunch and a selection of delicious desserts.

Artisan Roast

A hipster paradise, Artisan Roast is a quaint, wooden-styled coffee shop with a quirky aesthetic serving up some of the absolute best coffee in Glasgow. Their food is vegetarian, organic, and locally sourced and their coffee is roasted daily at their roastery in Edinburgh.

Artisan Roast prides themselves on carefully serving up quality coffee, making sure every cup is perfect. The coffee is creamy and full of flavor — worth every penny.

Papercup

Papercup is another fantastic choice for specialty coffee in the west end. They roast fresh coffee every Monday and Wednesday, ensuring quality coffee for its guests everyday of the week. They have two locations. You have coffee directly from the roastery, but limited hours so do click their link for details. Otherwise, they have a quaint cafe on Great Western Road open daily.

Willow Grove Coffee

Nestled between the west end and the city centre, you’ll find Willow Grove Coffee whipping up tasty coffee on the popular Sauchiehall Street. They have one little table outside and a variety of cosy spots inside, too. I think this coffee shop is interesting because some of their staff are ex-convicts, helping them get back on their feet and reacquaint themselves with the city life.

Southside

The Glad Cafe

The southside has a handful of excellent options; one of them being The Glad Cafe in Shawlands. They make a beautiful cup of coffee roasted once again by Dear Green Coffee. They are also known as a live music venue, so you can oftentimes get the best of both worlds: Awesome music, delicious coffee.

Toro Coffee Southside

Toro Coffee

Hop off the Shawlands train station and head over to Pollokshaws Road where you’ll find Toro Coffee. They have a straight forward coffee menu as well as croissants, cinnamon buns, and other breakfast items. Their coffee is creamy and flavorful, and the staff serving them are most welcoming. The only downside is that they aren’t open for the full day; they usually close up shop by 3:30 every day.

My top travel recommendations ♡

These are a few of my top travel tips that will save you time and money while setting up for an AMAZING trip.

Booking flights: I can’t get enough of Google Flights. They have a cool feature where you can type in your departure airport and discover where you could fly within a certain budget. Otherwise, you can also compare airports and see what day is best to fly in/out to help you save money and have the most efficient flight path.

Travel insurance: SafetyWing is my go-to choice for travel medical insurance. They have a global policy that covers 180+ countries. You can visit any doctor, cancel anytime, and you’re even covered for a few weeks after returning to your home country.

Anti-theft bag: To help protect against pickpockets, I like to carry my beloved Travelon bag. It’s slash-resistant, has locked zippers, and is very sleek and functional for traveling abroad.

Accommodation: I almost exclusively use Booking.com to find places to stay when traveling. I got tired of all the additional fees from Airbnb and their hosts. Plus, Booking has everything from hotels and hostels to b&bs and entire house/apartment rentals.

Travel Credit Card: I love-love-love my Capital One Venture One credit card. It has a $0 annual fee and no fees when using abroad or paying in a foreign currency. Plus you get 20,000 bonus miles when you spend $500 in your first three months when you get this card.

Tours: I don’t travel on complete tours as I like to travel on my own terms, but I do like to book experiences, walking tours, and excursions through GetYourGuide. They have an amazing line-up of things to do in destinations around the globe. You can also fass a lot of skip-the-line tickets as well.

Hi, I’m Christa! Welcome to my sustainable solo travel blog dedicated to inspiring others to travel slowly, embracing a heart-forward and spirited approach to adventure.
