Snow was falling onto the cobbled street outside as I read a chapter from Conversations with Friends and occasionally grabbed a sip of my warm flat white. The weather outside was typical of late December, cold and snowy, but inside was snuggly warm with the aroma of freshly ground coffee in the air. This is your Estonia Guide on where to get the best coffee in Tallinn.
Värav – Coffee and Toast
Still in Tallinn’s Old Town but tucked away all by its lonesome, Värav – Coffee and Toast is one of the cafes for coffee in Tallinn. Its name says almost everything you need to know about its menu. They serve up fantastic, strong, and flavorful coffee along with a variety of toasts, acai bowls, and smoothies. I was a major fan of their vegan hummus toast (pictured above). So fresh, filling, and lovely with coffee!
Plus, it’s a in a cute and tiny building. As such, it’s not a place for groups and the setting very intimate with just a few t tables. But seriously, it is a gem!

OA Coffeeshop
No Sci-Fi vibes here, but their coffee will have you jumping into new dimensions…. cause it’s yummy! The OA Coffeeshop is a cozy spot on a small and lovely street in the Old Town. You’ll find it just off the lively street of Viru tänav, where there many shops and restaurants are lined.
This Tallinn coffee shop offers an assortment of coffee along with cakes and a few sandwiches. It’s a very laid-back and intimate spot. There are a few sofas that form three parts of a square with glass tables in the center. So, everyone is in the same seating section, but it still feels spacious.
I have enjoyed several days of sitting next to the window and watching out of it as I knit or read and sip coffee, watching the snowfall. And a bonus is that the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this Tallinn coffee shop!

RØST Bakery
It’s hard to decide what’s better, the coffee or the pastries at RØST Bakery, luckily we don’t have to make such decisions in life! RØST Bakery is killin’ the game in Tallinn with its simple coffee menu and superb pastries like cinnamon rolls, croissants, and custard tarts. The bakery also bakes their own bread! Their coffee is divine and well-balanced. If you’ve not tried a proper flat white, visit RØST Bakery for some of the best coffee in Tallinn.
This Tallinn coffee shop is not located in Old Town, but rather the heart of the city in a neighborhood called Rottermann Quarter. Here stylish boutiques and cafes share space in cozy shopping area. Plus, for those stylish central, it’s just a short walk from the Old Town.

SURF Cafe (local’s recommendation)
Looking for a specality coffee in Tallinn? One of the best places for a warm brew is SURF Cafe in Balti Jaam. SURF is located in the Balti Jaam market building, second box on the left from the main entrance on train station side. They have KOHE instant Coffee, fresh snacks like yummy coconut balls, and a new exotic coffee blend is available as daily special. Why not grab a cuppa from there before exploring the Old Town?
Special thanks to TeaCoffee99 for providing this lovely local’s recommendation in Tallinn! Check out their own coffee guides here.

Honorable Mention: Reval Cafe
You’ll find a few of these scattered around Tallinn. It’s a chain with locations in other parts of Estonia, too. With that being said, they do have decent coffee. Is it as good as the spots I’ve mentioned above? I won’t go so far as to say that, but it’s a decent spot with long and handy hours. They were even open on Christmas Day!
They have good coffee, a variety of breakfast/brunch, and even lunch dishes. It’s a solid choice if you’re in need of coffee and casual breakfast! Plus, the window seat in Tallinn Old Town offers nice street views.
