The Best Specialty Coffee Shops in Barcelona: Ultimate Guide

Barcelona lures in lovers of sunny days, charming architecture, football, and much more, but I’d doubt anyone has traveled to Barcelona solely for its coffee scene. I’m admittedly very high-maintenance when it comes to coffee, and I don’t trust many places in Barcelona to sculpt the perfect brew. But, rest assured, if you’re a coffee lover heading to Barcelona, you’ll have no problems finding a good cup of coffee if you stick to this guide to Barcelona’s best specialty coffee shops.

Gothic Quarter

Satan’s Coffee Corner

Tucked away in a quaint alley, Satan’s Coffee Corner is a petite yet bustling hipster coffee shop in the Gothic Quarter. It’s quite touristy to be fair, but they’re up to good things in there because the coffee is delicious. Expect long queues as you wait for either a take away or sit in coffee. It’s all worth the wait when you test one of the best specialty coffee in the Gothic Quarter!

Tostadores Bon Mercat

Just around the corner from the Barcelona Cathedral, you’ll find the delicious and freshly roasted coffee from Tostadores Bon Mercat. The staff is predominantly female and they’re very sweet and knowledgeable. It’s certainly the most traditionally Catalan place you’ll find on the list due to its menu, aesthetic, and staff. Though its close proximity to the cathedral and other tourist attractions, it still remains less touristy and full of locals who love the shop’s coffee and treats.

Nomad Every Day Specialty Coffee ShopNomad Coffee

A tiny coffee shop on a bustling Raval street lined with fruit shops and dive bars, Nomad Coffee brews up some pretty phenomenal coffee with a minimal decor aesthetic. If you sit down, check out some of the magazines they have available for reading. Indiespot, an independent music magazine, is my favorite one that they have laying around. It’s one of my favorite choices for specialty coffee shops in Barcelona.

WiFi: No

Pasta Madre

Not technically a specialty coffee shop and the place has a rather bland aesthetic, but I think it deserves a mention regardless. Pasta Madre is an Italian restaurant with a little bakery baking up fresh, perfectly crafted croissants every day. Their coffee lives up to the Italian name, too. They offer a coffee and a croissant for 1.60 euros, making it one of my favorite morning pit stops for cheap, delicious coffee.

WiFi: No

Dalston Coffee

You might almost miss Dalston Coffee when taking a stroll near Univeristat as it’s quite the teeny tiny coffee shop. When I say it’s small, I mean it. It’s the smallest specialty coffee shop in Barcelona. They have a miniature bar with two stools and that’s it, so it’s a popular spot for takeaway coffee and very intimate experiences. However, they are passionate about coffee, have nice coffee books inside for reading, and some delicious desserts, too.

El Born

Cafes El Magnifico Specialty Coffee

Cafes El Magnifico

Cafes El Magnifico is by far one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona. They are the definition of coffee culture. They source and roast their own coffee in-house, have bags available for purchase, and sell nice equipment for making the perfect cup at home. However, their coffee is basically only available for takeaway, but you can still sit on the benches that are both inside and outside of the shop. Regardless, it’s a beautiful spot with lovely stained-glass windows and employees who are serious about their coffee craft.

Take Away Specialty Coffee from Coffee Casa in El Born

Coffee Casa

Coffee Casa is one of the newest specialty coffee shops in Barcelona on a popular El Born street. They serve up specialty coffee to go in both hot and iced versions. It’s not the cheapest spot, but it’s convenient and certainly tasty. They also have a sister sandwich shop down the street called Sandwicherie. Also, if you’re a local asked for their local’s card to get a discount each time you buy coffee.

Gracia

Bicioci Bike Cafe

For the best Italian coffee in Gracia, visit Bicioci Bike Cafe on Carrer de Venus. The venue is cozy and work-friendly, but the real draw is the delicious coffee they serve up! They do a coffee + croissant combo deal for under €3 (even including flat whites, etc!). Their menu style is also quite unique, offering a breakfast deal of two eggs, bread of your choice, and a protein of your choice for under €10, too. Check out their menu here to see all the other yummies they offer!

WiFi: Yes

SlowMov

Another top spot for specialty coffee, SlovMov, located in the heart of Gracia, serves up fresh 100% Arabica coffee inside a cozy and stylish space. It’s a wonderful place to get a real coffee experience. As their name suggests, they prefer to take things slow as they craft the perfect coffee each and every time. They have a very “quality over quantity” type of motto.

WiFi: Yes

Eixample

CaféCosmo

Full of art and funk yet still cohesive and chic, CaféCosmo is a beautiful Eixample speciality coffee cafe and deli-style restaurant serving up sandwiches, salads and pastries. Fun fact, however, they actually serve coffee from Nomad, so if you’re looking for a meal and delicious coffee, it’s a good choice to come here. I also love their outdoor seating are set on a pedestrian-only street!

WiFi: No

Poblenou

Three Marks Coffee

Two stories with earthy and minimaltic vibes, Three Marks Coffee is my absolute favorite cafe in Poblenou. It’s located a couple of minutes away from La Monumental, where you’ll find lots of cool events going on. Love the coffee and the vibes! There’s also a small area for outdoor seating as the inside can get a bit stuffy in summer.

Needless to say, you won’t be disappointed if you’re a coffee lover looking for specialty coffee shops in Barcelona, as the city offers locals and visitors many fantastic places scattered throughout Barcelona’s neighborhoods. Want to know more about Barcelona? Click here for more articles!

My top travel recommendations ♡

These are a few of my top travel tips that will save you time and money while setting up for an AMAZING trip.

Booking flights: I can’t get enough of Google Flights. They have a cool feature where you can type in your departure airport and discover where you could fly within a certain budget. Otherwise, you can also compare airports and see what day is best to fly in/out to help you save money and have the most efficient flight path.

Travel insurance: SafetyWing is my go-to choice for travel medical insurance. They have a global policy that covers 180+ countries. You can visit any doctor, cancel anytime, and you’re even covered for a few weeks after returning to your home country.

Anti-theft bag: To help protect against pickpockets, I like to carry my beloved Travelon bag. It’s slash-resistant, has locked zippers, and is very sleek and functional for traveling abroad.

Accommodation: I almost exclusively use Booking.com to find places to stay when traveling. I got tired of all the additional fees from Airbnb and their hosts. Plus, Booking has everything from hotels and hostels to b&bs and entire house/apartment rentals.

Travel Credit Card: I love-love-love my Capital One Venture One credit card. It has a $0 annual fee and no fees when using abroad or paying in a foreign currency. Plus you get 20,000 bonus miles when you spend $500 in your first three months when you get this card.

Tours: I don’t travel on complete tours as I like to travel on my own terms, but I do like to book experiences, walking tours, and excursions through GetYourGuide. They have an amazing line-up of things to do in destinations around the globe. You can also fass a lot of skip-the-line tickets as well.
