Where to Get Coffee on Kiawah Island, South Carolina

Are you a coffee lover spending summer vacation on one of South Carolina’s lushest barrier islands? Kiawah Island might be a less bustling destination compared to some others along the South Carolina coast, but they certainly didn’t forget about us coffee people. If you’re visiting this summer, here’s where to get coffee on Kiawah Island and my favorite coffee shops.

The Hemingway, my favorite cafe on Kiawah Island

Tucked away on its own in a lovely white brick building, The Hemingway is a delicious place for breakfast or lunch on Kiawah Island. They also have the best coffee, of course!

They serve all your favorites from classic cappuccinos to iced lattes with milk alternatives. My boyfriend loved the maple iced latte with almond milk and I stuck to a cappuccino with oat milk. Both were delicious every time we went.

On top of that, there’s a range of croissants, biscuits, and sandwich options plus breakfast eggs and other offerings.

Something that makes it a unique coffee shop on Kiawah Island is that it also offers canned craft beers to take back to your vacation rental or a cozy little wine bar in the back. There are dozens of wine offerings, so it makes for an awesome thing to do on Kiawah Island!

Java Java, bustling coffee shop at Freshfields Shopping Village

With locally sourced beans and delicious sandwiches, Java Java is one of the most popular places to get coffee on Kiawah Island.

They have indoor and outdoor seating, and it’s beautifully set in the Freshfields Shopping Village – one of the best places to visit on Kiawah Island!

Order your favorite coffee drink; they have chai lattes, frozen drinks, smoothies, and classic coffees. Then, pair it with one of their delicious sandwiches. I got The Greenery on a ciabatta and it was everything I could have asked for. And luckily, if you’re a vegetarian like I am, they have more than just one vegetarian sandwich. Win!

I recommend stopping by this cafe while wandering the shopping village, visiting Indigo Books, or before going to a wine tasting at Forty Eight. See my guide on the best things to do on Kiawah Island for more details!

Starbucks inside Harris Teeter at Freshfields Shopping Village

If you’re a Starbucks fan, you’re in luck! There’s a Starbucks located inside Harris Teeter, the main grocery store on the island. Grab your Starbucks drink of choice as you stock up on groceries for your week on Kiawah Island. It’s open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily!

My top travel recommendations ♡

These are a few of my top travel tips that will save you time and money while setting up for an AMAZING trip.

Booking flights: I can’t get enough of Google Flights. They have a cool feature where you can type in your departure airport and discover where you could fly within a certain budget. Otherwise, you can also compare airports and see what day is best to fly in/out to help you save money and have the most efficient flight path.

Travel insurance: SafetyWing is my go-to choice for travel medical insurance. They have a global policy that covers 180+ countries. You can visit any doctor, cancel anytime, and you’re even covered for a few weeks after returning to your home country.

Anti-theft bag: To help protect against pickpockets, I like to carry my beloved Travelon bag. It’s slash-resistant, has locked zippers, and is very sleek and functional for traveling abroad.

Accommodation: I almost exclusively use Booking.com to find places to stay when traveling. I got tired of all the additional fees from Airbnb and their hosts. Plus, Booking has everything from hotels and hostels to b&bs and entire house/apartment rentals.

Travel Credit Card: I love-love-love my Capital One Venture One credit card. It has a $0 annual fee and no fees when using abroad or paying in a foreign currency. Plus you get 20,000 bonus miles when you spend $500 in your first three months when you get this card.

Tours: I don’t travel on complete tours as I like to travel on my own terms, but I do like to book experiences, walking tours, and excursions through GetYourGuide. They have an amazing line-up of things to do in destinations around the globe. You can also fass a lot of skip-the-line tickets as well.
