The beauty of Barcelona’s Cactus Park: Mossèn Costa i Llobera Garden

This mesmorizing Mediterranean city always finds a way to surprise me, and discovering its multitude of unique parks has been one of them.

As briefly described in my article Best Parks in Barcelona, Mossèn Costa i Llobera Garden, but we’ll call it the cactus park, is a garden park situated at the bottom of Montguïc, facing the sea. With practically empty footpaths, hundreds of cacti, other succulents, and a variety of plants from sub-tropical climates, this park is the nature lovers paradise.

As I have a great love for Mossèn Costa i Llobera Garden, I want to show you just how sharp this cactus park is looking.

Created in 1970, the cactus park gets its name from Miquel Cosa I Llobera, a Mallorcan poet and priest from the late 1800s. In Catalan, ‘Mossèn’ means ‘Priest.’

Mossèn Costa i Llobera Garden boasts a total 800 different cacti and a number of other species including subtropical trees, century plants, and even flowerbeds. Some plants in this garden are more than 100 years old.

“Trista l’auba se desperta.
Damunt la costa deserta
llança l’àguila son crit;
i, pel vent espellissades,
passen negres nuvolades
com a robes esqueixades
del vel immens de la nit.”
Miquel Cosa I Llobera

Interested in checking out Mossèn Costa i Llobera Garden yourself?
Find it in on the hill of Montguïc at Carretera de Miramar 38, Barcelona. The best metro stop is Paral-lel (L3).

My top travel recommendations ♡

These are a few of my top travel tips that will save you time and money while setting up for an AMAZING trip.

Booking flights: I can’t get enough of Google Flights. They have a cool feature where you can type in your departure airport and discover where you could fly within a certain budget. Otherwise, you can also compare airports and see what day is best to fly in/out to help you save money and have the most efficient flight path.

Travel insurance: SafetyWing is my go-to choice for travel medical insurance. They have a global policy that covers 180+ countries. You can visit any doctor, cancel anytime, and you’re even covered for a few weeks after returning to your home country.

Anti-theft bag: To help protect against pickpockets, I like to carry my beloved Travelon bag. It’s slash-resistant, has locked zippers, and is very sleek and functional for traveling abroad.

Accommodation: I almost exclusively use Booking.com to find places to stay when traveling. I got tired of all the additional fees from Airbnb and their hosts. Plus, Booking has everything from hotels and hostels to b&bs and entire house/apartment rentals.

Travel Credit Card: I love-love-love my Capital One Venture One credit card. It has a $0 annual fee and no fees when using abroad or paying in a foreign currency. Plus you get 20,000 bonus miles when you spend $500 in your first three months when you get this card.

Tours: I don’t travel on complete tours as I like to travel on my own terms, but I do like to book experiences, walking tours, and excursions through GetYourGuide. They have an amazing line-up of things to do in destinations around the globe. You can also fass a lot of skip-the-line tickets as well.
